What do you think about making compliments?
Saying please, saying thank you and making compliments are basic forms of human politeness. They may seem old school, because many people are not doing them any more. But they do go a long way. Please, thank you and making comliments will bring you a long way.
If you have studied Dale Carnegies “How to win friends and influence people” you have already heard about these basics. This book of Dale Carnegie is still an absolute classic. So if you have not read it yet, I suggest you do that.
But there is something more. “Magic forces” get into action when you use this magic formula. Lets just talk about psychological forces for now. People who have been pleased, are pleased. They are pleased with you and this makes them to want to fulfill your request. When someone says thank you, you feel that the person really enjoys it.Everyboday enjoys to it to do something for a person who is grateful for it. If someone is not grateful, you most likely wont give something to that person again. Its simply not really fun.
Making compliments means to see the good, the positive in the other person. True, genuine compliments can be very powerful and even life changing for someone. When you give compliments, you amplify the positive in the other person. This will make you their friend, they will trust you.
My action steps for today are very simple:
- Learn to say please,
- Learn to say thank you,
- Learn to make compliments.
